{"id":6874,"date":"2021-04-15T07:30:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T07:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elblogdeidiomas.es\/?p=6874"},"modified":"2021-04-11T18:32:00","modified_gmt":"2021-04-11T18:32:00","slug":"approach-to-french","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elblogdeidiomas.es\/en\/approach-to-french\/","title":{"rendered":"Approach to French"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Approach to French<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>If you have decided to start studying the French language on your own<\/strong>\u00a0, in this article we provide you with the precise elements to start, starting from the base of a total ignorance of said language, while you find the appropriate method for you.\u00a0As French contains a series of rules for its pronunciation, we believe it is appropriate for you to know them, and with that, you can at least read your new language.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Pronunciation (consonants)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Although many of the consonants are pronounced very similarly in Spanish and French, there are some exceptions.\u00a0These are some of the most important:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>cc<\/strong>\u00a0: Sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>k<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d before\u00a0<strong>a, o<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>u<\/strong>\u00a0(ex: accompagner) and like \u201c\u00a0<strong>ks<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d before vowels\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>i<\/strong>\u00a0(ex: accent).<\/li>\n<li><strong>d<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>t<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; at the end of a word when it is attached to the next.<\/li>\n<li><strong>f<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>v<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; at the end of a word when it is attached to the next.<\/li>\n<li><strong>gn<\/strong>\u00a0: generally sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>\u00f1<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: peigne).<\/li>\n<li><strong>r<\/strong>\u00a0: pronounced with a guttural sound (ex: route).<\/li>\n<li><strong>s<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>k<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; between vowels, sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>z<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; at the end of a word when it is joined to the next.<\/li>\n<li><strong>t:<\/strong>\u00a0sounds similar to \u201c\u00a0<strong>s<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d in the final syllable \u201c\u00a0<strong>-tion<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: attemtion).<\/li>\n<li><strong>v<\/strong>\u00a0: in French it has a velar sound differing from &#8220;b&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>w<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>v\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(ex: wagon) or \u201c\u00a0<strong>u<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: windsurf).<\/li>\n<li><strong>x<\/strong>\u00a0: generally sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>ks<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; (ex: taxi)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Final consonants are generally not pronounced.\u00a0However, when the next word begins with a vowel, the consonant is pronounced with it.\u00a0Example: \u201cc\u00b4est) urgent\u201d is pronounced = se turyan)<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Joint vowels and diphthongs<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like the &#8221;\u00a0<strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; in &#8220;cantar&#8221; (ex: plage)<\/li>\n<li><strong>ai<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; (ex: aimer, serait)<\/li>\n<li>sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>ai<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d before final \u201cll\u201d or \u201cl\u201d (ex: faille)<\/li>\n<li><strong>au<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>ou<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; (ex: manteau)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00e9:<\/strong>\u00a0sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: \u00e9quipement)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00e8<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like\u00a0<strong>(e)<\/strong>\u00a0open\u00a0<strong>\u00a0(<\/strong>\u00a0ex: m\u00e8re\u00a0<strong>)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ea<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like (e) cpn long sound (ex: b\u00eate)<\/li>\n<li><strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0: has no equivalent in Spanish, but is between the sound of the \u201c\u00a0<strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d for \u201cdoor\u201d and the \u201c\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d for \u201ceat\u201d (ex: hirondelle)<\/li>\n<li><strong>er<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like &#8221;\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221; in the infinitive (ex: appeler)<\/li>\n<li><strong>eu \/ oeu<\/strong>\u00a0: it has no equivalent in Spanish, but it is close to the sound of the \u201c\u00a0<strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: peur).<\/li>\n<li><strong>eau:<\/strong>\u00a0sounds like\u00a0closed\u00a0<strong>\u201co\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(ex: anneau)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00f4<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>o<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: h\u00f4pital)<\/li>\n<li><strong>oi<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like \u201c\u00a0<strong>u\u00e1<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d (ex: mois)<\/li>\n<li><strong>ou<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds like\u00a0<strong>&#8220;u&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0(ex .: (blouse)<\/li>\n<li><strong>u<\/strong>\u00a0: sounds between \u201cu\u201d and \u201ci\u201d &#8211; with narrowed lips (ex: musique).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Nasal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>These are the most important<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>aim, ain, eim, ein, im, in<\/strong>\u00a0: they sound like the &#8221;\u00a0<strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0&#8221;
