font-weight: 600; margin-bottom: 0px; color: #fff; background: #FF6868;\">\u00cdNDICE DE CONTENIDOS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#passive\">Passive Voice<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#subject\">The subject in the passive voice<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#active\">Active into passive voice<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>When the verb is in passive form,\u00a0the\u00a0true\u00a0agent of the sentence is not the subject\u00a0il paziente, il modo\u00a0\u00a0(the patient, the path), but the<strong> complement of the\u00a0dottore<\/strong>, di un crollo (of the doctor, of a collapse), which it is precisely defined as an agent complement.\u00a0The subject suffers the action.\u00a0Only verbs that have an expressed object complement can have the passive form.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"passive\">Passive Voice<\/h2>\n<p>The passive is formed with the auxiliary conjugated in the tense of the corresponding active verb, followed by the past participle of the verb.\u00a0<strong>The past participle agrees in gender and number with the subject.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The subject of the corresponding active sentence, preceded by the preposition da, becomes an agent&#8217;s complement if it is animate (a person, an animal) or an efficient cause complement if it is inanimate.<\/li>\n<li>The object&#8217;s complement becomes the subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Let&#8217;s look at some examples<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Present: Mangia la pizza (He eats the pizza).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>He (subject) eats (active verb) the pizza (object complement).<\/p>\n<p>The pizza \u00e8 mangiata da lui.<\/p>\n<p>Pizza (subject) is eaten (passive verb) by him (agent&#8217;s complement).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Perfect past tense<\/strong>:\u00a0le acque hanno sommerso il villaggio (the waters have submerged the village).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The waters (subject) have submerged (active verb) the village (object complement) \u21d2<\/p>\n<p>The village (subject) has been submerged (passive verb) by waters (complement of efficient cause)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Imperfect<\/strong> : Maria ha preparato la cena\u00a0(Maria prepared dinner)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remote past<\/strong> : il pittore ha dipinto il quadro\u00a0(the painter painted the picture) \u21d2\u00a0il quadro \u00e8 stato dipinto dal pittore\u00a0(the picture was painted by the painter);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Future<\/strong>\u00a0:\u00a0Natalia corregger\u00e0 i competed\u00a0(Natalia will correct the task) \u21d2\u00a0il compito sar\u00e0 corretto da Natalia\u00a0.\u00a0(the task will be corrected by Natalia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"subject\">The subject in the passive voice<\/h2>\n<p>In the active form, the subject performs the action expressed by the verb (subject and agent coincide).\u00a0In the passive form,\u00a0<strong>the subject suffers the action expressed by the verb<\/strong>, which is instead performed by something else or by another person (subject and agent are different).\u00a0Example: <em>Maria compra il gelato<\/em> (Maria buys the ice cream).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Passive without Spoken Agent<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>However, simple passive sentences\u00a0<strong>can<\/strong>\u00a0also\u00a0<strong>leave the author unmentioned,<\/strong>\u00a0leaving only the action itself, without worrying about who did what:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>La cena fu servita al tramonto.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dinner was served at sunset.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The house \u00e8 stata costruita male.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cake was eaten in a minute.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Il bambino era felice di essere stato accettato.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The boy was happy to have been accepted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>La donna fu tanto amata nella sua vita.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The woman was very loved in her life.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"active\">Active into passive voice<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>The first thing you have to do is identify the subject and the predicate.<\/li>\n<li>Done this identifies the direct object of the predicate.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, place the direct object in the place of the subject.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You will observe how what was before the subject becomes the predicate and vice versa.<\/p>\n<h3>Examples:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Jorge mangia i pistacchi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Jorge eats pistachios)<\/p>\n<p>Phrase in active that converted to passive would look like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I pistacchi sono mangiati da Jorge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(The pistachios are eaten by Jorge).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ra\u00fal si stira la giacca.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Ra\u00fal irons his jacket).<\/p>\n<p>Phrase in active that in passive would look like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The giacca \u00e8 stirata da Ra\u00fal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The jacket is ironed by Ra\u00fal.<\/p>\n<p>We transform a sentence from the\u00a0<strong>active to the passive form thanks to the use of auxiliary verbs<\/strong>, mainly to be but also to come and go.\u00a0Example: Listen.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"354\">Present<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m here<\/td>\n<td width=\"354\">ascolto &gt;
